Dragonflies in the Rice Fields – Biodiversity Training at Can Tho University

In a visit to Can Tho University in January 2025, our German colleague from the OrganoRice project delivered a guest lecture and hands-on training session focused on dragonflies as indicators of ecological health in organic rice systems.

Under the title “Dragonflies – More Than a Colorful Decoration in Paddy Fields,” the session highlighted how dragonflies serve as a valuable bioindicator for monitoring the environmental quality of rice fields. The workshop combined scientific input with practical field observations, offering students and researchers tools to better understand and protect agroecosystems.

The event was a vibrant example of international cooperation and interdisciplinary exchange, reinforcing the project’s commitment to ecological balance and knowledge-sharing. Participants explored how tracking biodiversity can support the goals of organic agriculture and provide early insights into environmental shifts.

Huge thanks to our Vietnamese partners for hosting such a dynamic exchange of knowledge. By integrating biodiversity monitoring into organic farming, the project continues to promote sustainable practices that benefit both people and the planet.
