OrganoRice midterm meeting in Bonn highlights project progress and global collaboration.
On 21 February 2024, the OrganoRice project marked a major milestone with its midterm meeting, held in Bonn, Germany. The event gathered the German project partners alongside the Vietnamese project partners who participated virtually, ensuring inclusive and productive discussions across continents. The Projektträger DLR participated, representing the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR).
The meeting was a valuable opportunity to take stock of the project’s progress since its official start in December 2022. A comprehensive presentation, delivered in hybrid format, showcased key achievements in research, field implementation, and international cooperation. Topics included the expansion of field trials across three provinces in the Mekong Delta, advances in digital monitoring tools, effective pesticide and heavy metal analysis, as well as capacity-building activities involving local students and extension workers.
Lively discussions focused on scientific results and their interpretation, as well as practical challenges. The opportunity for extended research due to the project extension and strategic outlooks like the joint publication of research and project opportunities sparked an active exchange between the project partners.
The DLR commended the collaborative spirit and scientific rigour of the consortium, emphasizing the broader significance of OrganoRice as a model for sustainable agricultural development.
